Neuroth’s company history
Neuroth was founded by Paula Neuroth in 1907 and has continued to develop ever since. Find out more about our key milestones and how we’ve grown, from the early beginnings to modern innovations.

On Friday, 13 December 1907, Paula Neuroth laid the foundation for the Neuroth Group. Paula suffered from hearing loss herself, which prompted her to open the ‘First specialised shop for hearing aids’ in order to improve the quality of life of others by using the latest technologies. It was the first specialised store for people with hearing loss in the entire Austro-Hungarian Empire and one of only three such companies worldwide at the time. Paula Neuroth was a pioneer in the field of audiology – her courage and passion continue to drive all Neuroth employees to this day. Our historical milestones from 1907 to the present day at a glance.

Paula Neuroth, who herself was hard of hearing, opens the ‘First specialised shop for hearing aids J.A. Neuroth’ together with her husband, Johann August, on Blechturmgasse in Vienna – the first such shop in the monarchy.

At the age of 29, Waltraud Schinko-Neuroth takes over the company from her father, Carl August. Dynamic and resourceful, she ushers in a new era.

The second Neuroth hearing centre in Austria opens in Graz. A few years later, the Schinko-Neuroth family moves the company from Vienna to Schwarzau in the Schwarzau Valley (southeast Styria). A Viennese company becomes a Styrian one.

The company headquarters in Schwarzau are gradually expanded – as is the network of hearing centres. In 2001, Neuroth opens its first hearing centre outside of Austria – in Switzerland.

The baton is handed over: at the age of 24, Lukas Schinko takes over as chair from his mother, Waltraud Schinko-Neuroth, who has led the company for more than 30 years.

Neuroth moves into its new headquarters in Graz. Schwarzau remains the central production and logistics centre.

Owing to space constraints, Neuroth moves production to a new location. Lukas Schinko opens the new supply centre in Lebring with his brother Gregor Schinko (chair of the Supervisory Board).

Neuroth Hearing Experience World opens in Lebring, offering exciting insight into the world of hearing – from the production of state-of-the-art hearing solutions to a museum.

Neuroth is on course for expansion – including in Southeast Europe. In addition to new locations in Serbia, the first hearing centre opens in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Neuroth now has a presence in eight countries.

The company continues on its successful expansion curve. In Europe, Neuroth now has around 280 hearing centres. Digital innovations, such as the Neuroth hearing test app, are also conquering the market.

With Viennatone, the Neuroth Group develops its first exclusive own brand. This offers new options for Neuroth customers who want to give their hearing aid a smart upgrade. In Switzerland, the Neuroth Group takes over Misenso’s hearing acoustics and optics businesses.
